Increasing Web Traffic on a Small Budget    11.21.2008

The internet is home to billions and billions of web pages with each claiming itself to be the “best resource on the net”. With all of the competition amongst companies for web traffic and the ASTRONOMICAL service charges that SEO companies charge for increasing your web traffic it’s very easy to get lost in the internet shuffle. So the question is how does the small business person increase their web traffic without increasing his marketing expenses? Below I have included several cost-effective tips that will increase your web traffic. These tips are listed in order from most to least relevant:

  • The first tip is old-fashioned “Word Of Mouth Marketing”. Look at every encounter with an individual as an opportunity to market your business. However, don’t come on as if you’re trying to sell something to the person. Be personable, be helpful! Before walking away from the person give them your card, tell them what you do, and tell them to check out your website when they have the chance.

  • Form partnerships with other sites on the internet. In the real world, the more people you know the more popular you are. This idea transfers to the internet, the more sites you are affiliated with, the more popular your site will be.

  • Include a link to your website in EVERY email that you send and look to send emails as often as possible. DON’T RESORT TO SENDING SPAM. SENDING SPAM OR SPAM-LIKE MAIL MAY CAUSE CERTAIN FIREWALLS TO BLOCK YOUR DOMAIN!

  • Design your website with relevant, descriptive tags (i.e. <META></META>, <TITLE></TITLE>, <ALT></ALT>, etc.) Include relevant keywords on your website. First, brainstorm about what words users would type in if they were looking for your business and include them in the text of your home page. Be as descriptive as possible when choosing your combination of keywords.
